I have this friend with a heart that longs and beats and throws itself toward God and His girls. She knows this is her one very precious life and she has decided to take a walk on the wild side and do hard things for the kingdom. And we all (somewhere deep inside) long for this same purpose. Listen as Dawn Tiffany shares her heart of discovering our purpose and how each and every one of us is worth discovering it.
Out of billions of people, no two people have the same fingerprints. More remarkably, no two people have the same heartbeat. Our God is not a God of happenstance. It is no accident that He gave you your own fingerprint and your own heartbeat. He wants you to know that there never has been and never will be anyone else who can leave your imprint or live your life’s purpose. You are on this Earth for a plan that is only yours. When you start living as if that is true, you will come to life and people around you will be uniquely impacted.
Whatever it is that makes this true for you is the place where you will begin to discover your spiritual purpose. Beyond your job, beyond money, beyond worldly success, there is a spiritual race that is yours to run.
The Message version of Hebrews 12:1-3 explains it beautifully:
Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!
Many of us will read that and it will excite us, but we don’t know why it excites us or what that race even looks like for us. For the sake of clarity, I would like to build a beginning framework for what is meant by Spiritual Purpose.
First, let’s look at the word Purpose and provide synonyms that may hold more meaning for you: Purpose – Aspiration, Plan, Conviction, Motivation, Resolve, Intention, Aim. Now, let’s look at the word spiritual: Spiritual – Religious, Sacred, Divine, Holy, Non-secular, Faith, Devoted.
If you start combing the sets of synonyms, you begin to get some beautiful definitions. A Spiritual Purpose is a Religious Aspiration, a Sacred Plan, a Divine Conviction, a Holy Motivation, a Non-Secular Resolve, an Intentional Faith, a Devoted Aim.
What does that mean for you? In the secret places of your Spirit, what do you aspire to, what is sacred to you, what convictions do you cling to, what motivates you? If you’re unsure, ask God for clarity. Begin journaling on each set of synonyms. Look back at your life, what has excited you, what have you excelled at, where and when did you feel most alive? Can any of that be used to advance the Kingdom of God and bring Him glory? The things you are passionate about, the things that break your heart, these are not random, they are your calling. Listen and pay attention to the moments that make your heart skip a beat.
In our lives, we are all on a quest for purpose because we were created to leave a legacy. Many people stop short and only pursue a worldly legacy and constantly feel like they’re coming up short. This is because we were created to leave an eternal, God glorifying, kingdom building legacy.
This Saturday, January 30th, Fulfilled Ministries is hosting an event called, Night of Purpose. We will more deeply explore the topic of spiritual purpose and how to identify where you are in your race. The event starts at 7:00pm and will be held at Liberty Christian Fellowship church in Liberty, MO. Come enjoy a hot cocoa bar, followed by some beautiful worship, and then we will dive into this topic and what it means for your life. Grab some friends, go out for dinner, and then come enjoy a Night of Purpose, as we all search for our uniquely designed purpose.
